JEANNINE MURRAY-ROMÁN

Jeannine Murray-Román is a recent graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles department of Comparative Literature. Her current book project, “Touching the Distance: Performance in Contemporary Caribbean Writing,” places the Anglophone, Francophone and Hispanophone literary traditions of the Caribbean in conversation around the question of how performance practices inform the aesthetics and politics of contemporary Caribbean writing. While in the Mellon Program, she taught Spanish 170, “Music and Theatricality in Hispanophone Caribbean Literature,” a course that traces the influence of musical traditions on 20th century writing and in Spring 2011, she taught Comp Lit 190, “Caribbean Voices,” which explores comparative Caribbean literature through the encounter between orality and writing. Jeannine currently serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor of French at Reed College.
